PHOTOBOOTHS IN MOVIES & TV

Summer in the City

Wim Wenders (Germany, 1970, 125 min.)

One of director Wim Wenders' earliest films follows Hanns (Hanns Zischler) as he wanders the city streets. Wenders has always shown an interest in photobooths and other automated machines throughout his career, as evidenced by the cigarette machine, pinball machine, automat, and photobooth in this early film.

Please forgive the atrocious copy of the film from which these images are taken.

Summer in the City is the earliest of at least five Wenders films to feature photobooths and photostrips, followed by Alice in the Cities, Falsche bewegung, Paris, Texas, and Faraway, So Close!.
